Hi Everyone,

Welcome to another inspire.create challenge! This week's challenge is a colour challenge.

icc #31

This colour challenge  immediately reminded me of something. It took a little while to put my finger on it, but I figured it out!

When my son was 6 months old we moved from a tiny apartment into a large townhouse and he finally had his own room. Upon moving  in the room was Balmy Blue but after a couple months I wanted to give him a full on theme room. I was inspired by our trip out to British Colombia and Alberta the fall before and decided to do his room in an O' Canada theme with a mountain mural on one wall. Night of Navy was the primary colour of his room but Sahara Sand, Shaded Spruce and Merry Merlot were all accent colours!

We have since moved from that townhouse so I wanted to do a scrapbook page dedicated to this room I loved so much. Two page layouts are not my typically my style, but I had so many pictures I wanted to include I decided to go for it.

The pages feature Stampin' Up!'s Colorful Seasons stamp set and coordinating dies as well as the Rooted in Nature stamp and die bundle. Here is a look at how the layout came to be....

I started off by creating my own maple leaf patterned paper. I was having an off  stamping day as you can tell by the page below. No worries though because the pictures end up covering my OOPS-ES!

I decided to cut the page in half lengthwise and use half for each scrapbook page. Then I chose co-coordinating colours of cardstock and DSP and lay them out. I scored a square pattern in my background cardstock using the simply scored board.  Then scored a wider stripe in my Sahara Sand 8.5 x 11 cardstock. I added smaller pieces of SS cardstock (2.5 x 3.5") and embossed them with the Woodland embossing folder.

I also embossed the two DSP sheets with the same Woodland folder and rounder their corners with the reverse punch on the envelope punch board. I did the same to the corners of my custom DSP and added it below. When layering I like to leave little "peek-a-boos" of paper peeking out from underneath other layers.

The two pages are mirror image layouts.

Details and Embellishments

From here I added in my photos and embellishments. I also added  "tabs" of wood textures paper with rounded corners to add more interest to the page and back some of my die cuts. The embellishments were made with stamps and dies from Colorful Seasons and Rooted in Nature. Some were heat embossed in copper. As well all the statements  are copper heat embossed and I included some copper thread and a copper leaf trio from the Leaves Trinkets. How many copper embossed statements/sentiments can you find?

For the page title I watercoloured  a background using an aqua painter and a Merry Merlot reinker on watercolour paper. I then stamped in Merry Merlot and die cut the letters using the Lined Alphabet bundle. This is my favourite way to make page titles and you will see it again in some other pages I have planned to share with you. Behind the title I added some stretched copper trim and trees from the Rooted in Nature bundle.
