28 Days of Christmas Blog Series

I'm really thrilled to announce that I will be running a 28 Days Of Christmas Blog Series! The idea for this Christmas blog series was inspired by the Merry Little Christmas Suite in Stampin' Up's upcoming 2017 Holiday Catalogue.

I wanted to create a large focal point that could be displayed on a mantle or a shelf. It all of the sudden occurred to me to make a tree shaped advent calendar using the window box framelit dies. The great thing about using the window boxes is that each box is big enough to hold enough treats for the whole family!

Each day of the Christmas blog series I will decorate one of the 28 boxes (only 24 will open), using different embellishments and designer series paper. I am getting a REALLY early start on this as it is a rather big project. ALSO, I wanted to allow plenty of time for those of you who wanted to make your own to be able to do so, and have it ready to enjoy come December 1st!

If you choose to make your own it's up to you to decide if you want to make a box a day and decorate it or take a day or two to put together all the boxes before you start decorating them. I opted to make all the boxes first. Each 8.5" x 11" sheet of cardstock will make one box or 1 12" x 12" sheet will make 2 boxes. I used 1 pack of 8.5" x 11" Old Olive cardstock and added some additional black boxes and one gold foil box. I will post a video tutorial on the easiest way I way found to assemble the boxes. TIP: DON'T use the multipurpose liquid glue!

This Christmas blog series project is a lot of work but I think the finished project will make for a fantastic Christmas focal point and be totally worth it.  Here are the 28 boxes laid out and arranged on my craft room floor:

To give you an idea of how big this advent calendar is here is a picture of it beside a Stampin' Up! ink pad. In this picture I have also laid out the base layers of designer series paper featuring Stampin' Up!'s DSP.

And here is the mess left behind after all that big shot-ing. So worth it though!

Over the next month and a half or so I will be decorating and posting each window box individually before putting it all together into an upright advent calendar focal piece! I have no idea, now what the final look will be, but I'm hoping it will be magical! Keep checking back regularly to see how it is coming along!

Happy Stamping!
